The castles of Flémalle
The municipality of Flémalle has eight private castles : the castles of Chokier, Aigremont, Ramet, Ramioul, Hautepenne, Mons, Croix Saint-Hubert and Petite Flémalle .
Among them, only the Château de la Petite Flémal' is accessible to the public , as part of guided tours organized on request.
However, the other castles can be admired from the outside during some of our organized walks or during your individual walks, thanks to the forty or so routes available on the Cirkwi and Komoot applications.
The castle of Petite Flémal'
Grand'Route 287 – Flémalle-Haute
Built in 1614 by Michel Valkener , receiver at the collegiate church of Saint-Pierre in Liège, the castle stands in the heart of a property formerly known as "Petite Flémal'" .
Originally conceived as a pleasure residence, the property was enlarged between1710 and 1738 under the impetus of Marie-Françoise de Bonhomme , who had a second symmetrical wing built.
Today, the castle houses municipal services . It is extended by a contemporary wing and surrounded by a remarkable park , open to the public free of charge all year round.
A park with multiple influences
Over the centuries, the park has evolved: initially a utilitarian orchard , it gradually became a public garden blending different influences, notably Italian, French and English .
Its flowerbeds, ponds and rockeries now create a pleasant setting for a walk or a break in the heart of Flémalle.
The park is also very popular for wedding photography , with many couples coming to capture their special day.
